Medication Summary

Symptoms of norovirus infection are usually self-limited and resolve spontaneously within 24-48 hours. Antidiarrheal agents may be used with caution but should be avoided in children. Over-the-counter analgesics (eg, ibuprofen, acetaminophen) and antiemetics, if prescribed by physician, can be used for symptomatic relief (drug-specific product labeling should be consulted). Fluid intake is recommended to maintain hydration.
