Differential diagnoses for peroneal tendon pathology include the following:

  • Lateral ankle instability
  • Syndesmotic injuries
  • Osteochondritis of talus
  • Painful os trigonum
  • Lateral ankle and foot fractures (see Physical Examination)
  • Retrocalcaneal bursitis
